In my pathetic appeal, I argue that domestic violence against women in Afghanistan is a problem and that women's shelters are an invaluable resource for women who seek to escape the abuse. I use enargeia to put my audience in the shoes of an abused woman in the U.S. and then an abused woman in Afghanistan, contrasting their experiences to evoke pity and sadness for the Afghan woman. The purpose of my argument is to get the audience to donate to NGOs that support shelters and women's rights in Afghanistan. The interpretation that leads to this action is: "this could happen to me/a woman I care about if I had been born into that culture."
